About Migrant Writers of Singapore

Every day, migrant workers build our homes, clean our streets and care for our families. We know their jobs. We rarely know their words.

In 2015, Zakir Hossain Khokan, a migrant worker from Bangladesh, started a small online group for migrants who write. It grew into Migrant Writers of Singapore.

Today it brings together writers and artists from the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and beyond. They run workshops and poetry readings, publish books, and have performed at the Esplanade and the Singapore Writers Festival.

Many of its organisers are migrants themselves, volunteering their time on rest days. They share one belief: everyone has a gift, and a voice worth hearing.
